02.06.2021
The Education Committee of the Bamenda City Council remains committed to ensuring that education in our city is accessible, of high quality, and responsive to the needs of our growing population. Over the past few months, the Committee has been actively engaged in several initiatives aimed at improving the education sector and providing better learning opportunities for all residents.
In an effort to address the challenges posed by inadequate learning environments, the Education Committee has initiated a series of school infrastructure improvement projects. These include the renovation of dilapidated classrooms, the construction of new school buildings, and the installation of necessary amenities like clean water and functional toilets. These efforts aim to create safe and conducive learning environments for both students and teachers.
Recognizing that quality education starts with well-trained educators, the Committee has launched a professional development program for teachers. This initiative includes workshops, seminars, and skill-building sessions focused on modern teaching techniques, classroom management, and the integration of technology in the classroom. The goal is to empower teachers to provide the best educational experience to their students.
To ensure that every child in Bamenda has access to education, the Committee has intensified efforts to address barriers to education, particularly for disadvantaged children. Initiatives include scholarships, school feeding programs, and partnerships with local NGOs to provide learning materials for students in need.
In addition to supporting primary and secondary education, the Education Committee has been advocating for the expansion of vocational and technical education. The aim is to equip young people with practical skills that will prepare them for the workforce, reduce unemployment, and meet the growing demands of local industries.
Understanding that a healthy student is a productive student, the Education Committee has also been working on initiatives to promote student health. This includes the integration of health education into school curricula, providing mental health support, and ensuring that schools are equipped to address health-related issues such as malnutrition and sanitation.
The Committee continues to promote community involvement in the education sector. Through parent-teacher associations, school board meetings, and public consultations, the Education Committee encourages the community to take an active role in shaping the future of education in Bamenda.
The Education Committee remains committed to ensuring that the educational needs of Bamenda are met with creativity, resourcefulness, and dedication. The Committee’s focus is on creating an educational environment that fosters personal growth, academic achievement, and professional development for all students, regardless of their background.
As always, the Bamenda City Council invites residents to engage with the Education Committee, share their thoughts, and collaborate on the continued improvement of education in the city.
Together, we can build a stronger, more educated Bamenda.
