New year Celebration
02.06.2021
The 2021 municipal elections marked a significant moment in the democratic journey of Bamenda and the wider North West Region. Despite the challenges facing the region, the people of Bamenda demonstrated resilience, civic responsibility, and a shared commitment to shaping the future of their city through active participation in the electoral process.
The elections offered residents the opportunity to elect their representatives at the City Council and municipal levels—leaders who would be entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing development initiatives, ensuring public service delivery, and safeguarding the interests of the community.
In the spirit of transparency and democratic values, the Bamenda City Council acknowledges and appreciates the turnout and peaceful conduct of the elections. It was a clear sign that the people of Bamenda are ready to contribute to governance and take ownership of the development process.
Following the elections, the newly elected Council members, led by the Lord Mayor, pledged to uphold integrity, accountability, and inclusive governance. Their mandate focuses on critical priorities such as:
Enhancing basic infrastructure and sanitation.
Promoting youth empowerment and job creation.
Strengthening community security and cohesion.
Supporting local businesses and rural development.
Deepening transparency and civic engagement.
The Council extends gratitude to all electoral stakeholders, including ELECAM, civil society, traditional authorities, and the local population for their roles in making the 2021 elections a success.
As we move forward, the Bamenda City Council remains open and committed to working in partnership with the people. The road to progress is best traveled together—and the 2021 elections were a crucial step in that direction.
Together, we build Bamenda. Together, we move forward.
