The Bamenda City Council was created in 2009 headed by The Government Delegate appointed by Presidential decree. It operates with three subdivisional council (Bamenda I, II and III).The Post of The Government Delegate was later replace with the election of City Mayor and Deputies who are heading the City Council till date.
