New year Celebration
02.06.2021
As the world continues to navigate the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lord Mayor of Bamenda City Council has addressed the population with a message of solidarity, caution, and collective responsibility.
In a public address, the Mayor acknowledged the toll the pandemic has taken on families, businesses, education, and community life, while commending the people of Bamenda for their resilience and cooperation throughout this difficult period.
“COVID-19 has tested our systems and our unity, but it has also reminded us of the power of community. We must continue to stand together, protect each other, and follow health guidelines for the good of all,” the Mayor stated.
Adherence to Health Guidelines: Citizens are urged to continue wearing face masks, washing hands regularly, maintaining social distance, and avoiding large gatherings, especially in public spaces.
Vaccination Awareness: The Mayor encouraged all eligible residents to get vaccinated, emphasizing that vaccines are safe, free, and essential in the fight against the virus.
Support for Vulnerable Groups: Special attention is being given to the elderly, people with pre-existing conditions, and economically vulnerable families. The Council continues to collaborate with health institutions and NGOs to extend assistance where possible.
Boosting Local Recovery: The Council is taking steps to support small businesses and local vendors affected by the pandemic, offering platforms for gradual recovery and economic empowerment.
Community Responsibility: Citizens were reminded that defeating COVID-19 is not the government’s job alone—it requires individual discipline and community care.
In closing, the Mayor encouraged unity and prayer as the city forges ahead through the pandemic and beyond.
“Let us not tire. Let us not be careless. Let us not forget. The safety of Bamenda is in our hands.”
The Bamenda City Council remains committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of every resident and urges all to stay informed, stay cautious, and stay hopeful.
Together, we can overcome. Together, we will rebuild.
